So today was spent baking. After leaving my grandma's house this afternoon, I had a cupboard full of "baking goodies." These are things not commonly found at my home, but that's what made it a treat for our family. I ended up making pumpkin bread with white frosting. Then lemon poppy seed muffins with a lemon glaze. Last I made GFDF vanilla cupcakes w/chocolate frosting for my allergy girl. There was no way that I could make her suffer thru watching the rest of the family gorge out on foods that were not meant for her. BTW I would normally never buy these kind of foods for the family if they aren't allergy friendly. But, since they were a gift and we're desperate for groceries, I baked and enjoyed it ;)
Oh yes, and I made jello. Another gift. I am annoyed about the food dyes, but no one in my family is sensitive to them, so it's alright for this day.
I have two gallons of kefir and more on the way. I can't keep enough milk in my fridge. If any of you need kefir grains, Please let me know as I have plenty to share ;)
I'm tired and I'm blessed~

Home From A Day of Free
So today I decided to take the kids to our neighboring health foods store. They had all sorts of booths set up with free healthy foods and beverages, all in honor of earth day. They also had giveaways, and games for the kids. It worked really nice and the kids got their faces painted. They loved that more than anything. I am really happy that I got a free reusable tote. I love those, and am thrilled to death to have it!
I am also looking forward to some raw milk from a friend of mine ;) I don't know who's more excited her or me, lol! Well, in all actuality, she probably is. But, I'm really a close second.
Oh yes, I found a carton of Coconut milk at Whole Foods today. That was a true treat! I love all things coconut. Oil, cream, milk, flakes, kefir, flour, vinegar. You name it, and if it's coconut, I've tried it. But, this wasn't like ANY thing I've tasted. It's so mild in flavor that the kids, who don't like coconut flavor, totally go for it in their cereal. Since my daughter is dairy free, coconut is a great alternative for us due to its high fat content and creamy consistency. I can't wait to try kefir with it!!
Oh yeah, on the kefir front, I've already got a half gallon made. And another fermenting.....how neat! Soaked grains, here we come. And cheese, and sour cream, and cream cheese. I love that stuff!
Well, I must be going. The kids are running out of places to hide in our tiny house. So, I need to regulate.

been a while...
I've gotten out of the habit of blogging. Obviously. But I'll give a quick re-cap. 1) Jan-March was cold. 2)Kids played yo-yo with their winter sicknesses. 3)The yard needed mowing for about 2 months, and it just got mowed 2 days ago:) 4)Got a lawn mower given to us. 5) I am making kefir again. 6) Planted a garden. 7)The garden has more grass than plants. 8) I am back to menu-planning, and shopping accordingly. 9) Quit couponing because of the unhealthy foods it was bringing into our household. 10) I am working out at the gym 5 days a week.
Ok so that about does it. I'll try to keep up with this but I'm not making promises. I never do ;)
